BIRDS OF A FEATHER, FALL TOGETHER
At St. Lawrence Outfitters Inc., we are proud to offer our hunters a nearly endless supply of waterfowl hunting opportunities. Due to our unique location, long season and variety of birds, we are able to offer many different types of waterfowl hunting experiences. Whether hunting one of our fields for mallards and Canada geese, gunning a private timber hole for wood ducks and teal, or hunting the mighty St. Lawrence for late-season goldeneyes, our hunters enjoy a wide variety of world-class waterfowl hunts.
Endless Fields
A large part of our hunting takes place on our thousands of acres of leased fields. Each season we make sure we have plenty of excellent leases throughout Eastern Ontario. We maintain a good mix of crops, including: hay, barley, soya beans and corn. During different times of the season the birds feed on different crops as their nutritional needs change. By maintaining a good mix of leases, we ensure our hunters always have harvested fields to hunt in prime locations.
Many of our fields will have thousands of Canada geese and mallards feeding on them on any given day, while others will have a huge amount of waterfowl traffic flying over them daily. Many of our high-traffic fields have daily flights of 10,000-plus birds, more than enough to supply endless hunting possibilities so everyone can expect to bag their limit.
"It's simple, we strive to provide the best waterfowl hunting in the world!"
Hits from the Pits
We use two basic approaches for hunting fields: mobile and stationary. In several of our fields we've installed permanent blinds, with underground pits or hedgerow blinds. We only install such blinds in high, regular traffic areas. With our years of experience we've been able to identify many ideal locations. We currently have seven permanent stationary field locations and are always adding more.
Mobile Madness
Our mobile approach utilizes a fleet of covered trailers loaded with laydown style blinds and a vast array of decoys. With these rigs we have the freedom to move around the countryside and hunt at the best location on that particular day.
Both approaches have their advantages and disadvantages, however, with the ability to switch between styles of hunts we make certain that our hunters are always in the right spot at the right time. Our versatility has always been a major factor in our success.
Now that's Close
Regardless of the style of field hunt, the hunt is usually fast and furious with large flights of birds and calling to within 20 yards. Our guides are extremely accomplished waterfowlers and top callers. Our hunters find it an exceptionally rewarding experience hunting with one of our guides whether it's because they shot their limit of birds, learned something new about waterfowl hunting or simply enjoyed spending a day in the company of a guide with the acquired knowledge of a world champion calibre caller.
The "WATER" in Waterfowl
In addition to our dry-land field hunts, we also offer a full array of waterfowl hunts for both ducks and Canada geese. Our waterfowl hunts range from private quarries for geese to flooded timberland and swamps, small inland lakes and backwaters and to the big water of the St. Lawrence River. Every location is different and provides a unique waterfowl hunting experience. Many of our hunters have been hunting with us for years and yet have never hunted the same spot twice.
The Big Splash
One of our flagship hunts has always been hunting Canada geese over the water. It's a hunt that many hunters never get to experience and is unique and exciting. Birds returning to the water act and decoy differently than in a field and the calling technique is different, with a more mellow and eerie sound. Nothing raises the hackles on your neck like the moan of a lone goose flying low along the river. Water hunts are great for watching some incredible dog work as well, a significant addition to the total hunting experience.
Mixed Bag
While duck hunting on the water, we harvest a wide variety of species, including: mallard, pintail, widgeon, gadwall, teal, wood duck, scaup, ringbill and goldeneye. The species harvested depends on time of the season and the location. Some of our areas are species specific while others give you the opportunity for a mixed-bag harvest.
MacIntosh Country Inn
Located one hour east of St. Lawrence Outfitters Store is the MacIntosh Country Inn. Nestled in the heart of the picturesque St. Lawrence Valley, the McIntosh Country Inn and Conference Centre offers guests, large and comfortably-appointed guest-rooms. The Inn is located within minutes of the Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary, home to uncounted thousands of waterfowl. The surrounding area provides outstanding goose hunting throughout October and November and we maintain thousands of acres of leases in the immediate vicinity. The Inn also features a whirlpool, sauna, exercise area, arcade and heated swimming pool. (Dogs allowed)
